The beta version of the new DNB catalogue
As part of the portal of the German National Library (DNB) the catalogue has become outdated. The DNB has therefore set itself the task of developing a modern catalogue with an intuitive search function, with the purpose of providing easy access to our data, media and objects. – And that regardless of whether you access the catalogue on the go, at home or in the reading rooms at one of our two sites in Leipzig and Frankfurt am Main.
We have already achieved many goals. The new catalogue now has a presentable status, which we would like to show to you. We want to tailor our services as closely to the needs of our visitors as possible. This is why we are publishing a beta version, thereby giving you the opportunity to help actively shape the catalogue’s further development.
What does the beta version currently deliver?
For the beta version, we have focused on the data-search function, whose display and building a new user interface. Search functions, data displays and filters are all geared towards users’ requirements. These features are designed to provide the most comprehensive possible overview of the data and media in the German National Library.
Alongside a convenient “Simple search” function, the catalogue also offers a search mode aimed at experts. This can be used to conduct more complex searches within the catalogue using the query language CQL.
The catalogue encompasses all the data from our collections as well as all the information from our Knowledge Web.
What is still missing? What comes next?
Every function that is linked to a user account is still under development. This includes the option of ordering media to view in the reading room. The use of digital media such as e-books and tables of contents is also currently not possible.
If you wish to order a medium for use in the reading room or want to access a digital medium, please click on the link “DNB portal” at the end of the respective full-page display. You will then be directly forwarded to the respective medium in the DNB portal catalogue.
We are also working on improving the search function and data display. Our plans include a reminder list, a search history and many other features. Furthermore, we will provide you with help texts and FAQs, as well as optimise barrier-free access. There is still much to look forward to!
In future, we wish to react more flexibly to user comments. Your feedback helps us to improve and further develop the catalogue.
We look forward to your e-mail at katalog-beta@dnb.de.
