As Germany's central archival library, the German National Library is legally obliged to collect all media works published in Germany, archive them permanently and make them accessible to the public. Some of the media in its collections may therefore contain anti-constitutional, racist, anti-Semitic, discriminatory or sexist material or material that glorifies violence. These do not reflect the German National Library's values. Such works are added to the collection and made available to the public solely for documentary, library-related, scientific and historical purposes and for purposes of civic education. The distribution of such content may have legal consequences.
