Ca. 1510 von den Portugiesen entdeckt, bis 1598 portugiesischer Stützpunkt, danach bis 1710 niederländische Kolonie. 1715 von den Franzosen erobert und in "Ile de France" umbenannt. 1810 von den Briten besetzt und zur britischen Kronkolonie umgewandelt. 1958 Autonomie, 1968 Unabhängigkeit. Seit 12.3.1992 Republik nach Einführung einer neuen Verfassung. |
