Überlieferung: Der Text ist in zwei Fassungen überliefert: Einer vorwiegend in Versen abgefassten handschriftlichen Version und einer in frei rhythmisierter Prosa geschriebenen Druckfassung, die 1800 in der romantischen Zeitschrift Athenäum erscheint. Der Text hat eine außerordentlich reiche Rezeptionsgeschichte. Richard Wagners "Tristan und Isolde" (1859) z.B. fußt auf der Konzeption einer Liebestod-Religion, wie sie von Novalis entwickelt wird. Seit Jahrzehnten gehören die Hymnen zur kanonisierten Studienlektüre. |
